Shabash Bangladesh Monument

“Bravo Bangladesh” — a sculptural salute to the Liberation War

Shabash Bangladesh Monument

Nitun Kundu’s tribute to the indomitable spirit of 1971 on the Rajshahi University campus.

Created by sculptor Nitun Kundu and installed at the University of Rajshahi, Shabash Bangladesh takes its name from the closing lines of Sukanta Bhattacharya’s poem “Durmor.” The sculpture portrays freedom fighters in a posture of defiance and resilience, accompanied by an inscription that reads, in essence: “Bravo Bangladesh — the world looks on in amazement; though burned and destroyed, the head is never bowed.” Completed in the early 1990s, it stands as one of the university’s principal memorials to the Liberation War and a focal point for campus commemorations.
