Raju Memorial Sculpture

Students linked in defiance against campus terrorism

Raju Memorial Sculpture

Eight interlocked figures that have become a lasting emblem of student solidarity.

Situated in front of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) at the University of Dhaka, the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture commemorates Moin Hossain Raju, a student activist of the Bangladesh Students’ Union who was killed on 13 March 1992 while leading a protest against campus violence. Created by sculptors Shaymol Chowdhury and Gopal Paul and inaugurated on 17 September 1997, the work depicts eight figures with arms linked in a gesture of collective resistance. The sculpture has since become one of the most recognisable symbols of student activism on the Dhaka University campus.
