Inani Beach
Follow Marine Drive to a quieter coast carved by tide and stone
Leave the city beach behind and hunt for Inani’s rock-lined shoreline at low tide.
Take Marine Drive south and watch Cox’s Bazar’s urban energy fall away. At Inani, the coast opens into broad sand and exposed rock formations that change character as the tide moves. Low tide reveals more of the rugged shoreline, while the road journey brings its own drama as the Bay and green hills appear side by side. Walk carefully, photograph the changing coast and stay for sunset—but do not treat the rocks as a playground. They can be sharp, wet and slippery. Leave stones and marine life where they belong, keep clear of strong surf and carry what you need because services are lighter than in town.
Inani rewards timing more than speed. Check the local tide before leaving Cox’s Bazar and aim to reach the shoreline while falling or lower water exposes more of the rock formations. The landscape is not a fixed postcard: some stones disappear as the tide rises, pools form between uneven surfaces and the colour of the coast changes with cloud and afternoon light. Walk slowly, test each step and keep well back from waves washing across the rocks.
Turn the drive into part of the experience. Himchari makes a natural stop on the way, while viewpoints along Marine Drive reveal the meeting of hill and sea. A rushed out-and-back visit misses that transition. Carry water, sun protection and sturdy sandals or shoes, especially if you plan to explore beyond the easiest sandy section. Services are more scattered than in central Cox’s Bazar, so confirm your return vehicle and avoid being stranded after dark.
Photography is best from stable ground; no image is worth jumping between wet rocks or entering rough water. Children need close supervision, and swimming should be limited to clearly permitted, monitored areas. Leave shells, stones and small marine life exactly where you find them, because the shoreline is habitat as well as scenery. When the sun begins to drop, choose a safe open section and let the silhouettes of rock and surf shape the view. Inani feels adventurous because it replaces the city’s straight sandy horizon with texture, distance and a road that keeps unfolding south. Respect the tide, and the coast will reveal a different scene on every visit.
