Chandpur Padma-Meghna Junction
Where the great deltaic rivers meet
The Grand Confluence. Where Mighty Waters Collide.
The confluence at Chandpur, historically known as Boro Station Mohona, marks the dramatic meeting point of three major waterways: the Padma, the Meghna, and the Dakatia. This immense junction represents the raw power and scale of Bangladesh's riverine geography.
As the sediment-rich waters of the Padma merge with the deep flow of the Meghna, the river expands to an ocean-like horizon. The currents here are notoriously strong, creating turbulent waters that have shaped the local landscape and the lives of the communities living along the banks.
Chandpur’s identity is deeply tied to this confluence. The nutrient-rich waters make it one of the most fertile fishing grounds in the country, particularly for the prized Hilsa (Ilish) fish. The local fishing fleets and wholesale markets rely on this junction, making Chandpur a critical hub for the national fishing industry.
The Boro Station area has been developed to protect the town from erosion while providing visitors with a vast, unobstructed view of the rivers. Watching the sunset from this point, as fishing boats navigate the immense expanse of the meeting waters, offers a profound understanding of the delta’s natural grandeur.
